EXETER – The Exeter Mosquitoes won the Western Ontario Baseball Association (WOBA) , Division II championship on the weekend, going undefeated in four games.
In the first game Friday night against Saugeen Shores, Exeter scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back, going on to win 13 – 5.
Pitching were Noah Rothbauer, Connor McCann and Connor Drager, who shut the door with four strikeouts each.
Saturday morning Exeter faced Goderich and came back from a 6 -2 deficit to tie the game, winning 7-6 in extra innings. The hot bats and strong desire to win made for an exciting comeback.
Carter McLlwain, Rothbauer and McCann pitched, with Lucas Toornstra preserving the win with five strikeouts.
In Game 3 Josh McNaughton went four strong innings with six strikeouts against Hanover. Drager and McLlwain came in to seal the win 16 - 2.
In Game 4 Exeter faced Saugeen Shores and again Toornstra pitched a strong four innings, with Drager finishing out a 6 – 1 victory.
A team spokesperson said every player contributed in every game with timely hitting and good defensive play to earn the championship.
