LUCAN – The Lucan Irish picked up a pair of emphatic wins last week, beating the Port Stanley Sailors 6-0 at home Jan. 25 and the North Middlesex Stars 7-4 on the road Saturday.

At press time, the Irish were sixth in the SOJHL's seven-team Yeck Conference with 20 points, three behind fifth-place North Middlesex and two ahead of last-place Port Stanley.

The Jan. 25 game was rarely in doubt, and the Irish led 2-0 after the first period thanks to goals from David Latta and Jesse DeGroot.

Teammates Jordan May and Nick Moniz (2) scored in the second period, and Moniz completed a hat trick in the third, making it 6-0.

Irish goaltender Devin Golets had 26 saves in his first shutout of the season, while Brandon Garner and Kyle Parker split duties for Port Stanley, combining for 20 saves.

Lucan traded goals with North Middlesex in the first period of Saturday's game but led 3-2 at the break.

Irish player Craig Liddle struck first, scoring 5:13 into the frame, but North Middlesex player Mac Beaton tied it 23 seconds later.

Lucan's Keiron Cobban scored at 12:30 and North Middlesex player Matt Carroll tied it again at 17:16.

Irish player Jake Flemington scored to make it 3-2 late in the frame.
Stars player Tyler Kettler scored the only goal of the second period, but Lucan exploded with four goals in the third.

Brock Welch, Moniz and May scored, while Latta added an empty-netter.
Golets had 32 saves in the win, and North Middlesex player Bobby Raine had 45 saves.
