BLUEWATER — Bill Dowson is seeking a fourth term as the mayor of Bluewater.
The 25-year veteran of municipal politics is finishing his third term as Bluewater's mayor and, as previously reported, is facing competition in this fall's election from current Councillor-at-Large Jim Fergusson.
Dowson is the only mayor in Bluewater's history and served on the former Stanley Township council for 15 years prior to amalgamation.
Dowson, a lifetime owner/operator of the seventh generation Dowson family farm in the Varna area, was also an 18-year employee of Tuckersmith Communications. He served as two years as chairperson of the Hensall and District Co-operative and of the Huron County Bean Growers Board.
He is an active member of the Huron County Pork Producers, the Varna-Goshen United Church congregation and a 12-year director of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, including two years as chairperson. Dowson has also served 10 years on Huron County council.
He is also a provincial appointee for the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Dowson, who could not be reached for comment in time for the Times-Advocate's deadline Monday, said in a statement to Bluewater residents, "My only promise will be that I will be as fair and sincere as I can be to all residents and ratepayers."
Nominations for this fall's election close Sept. 10.
