HENSALL – Residents of Hensall are cleaning up this evening (July 28) after a reportedly brief but intense storm that felled trees and knocked heavy limbs onto power lines.

Witnesses reported hail, torrential rain and heavy winds starting sometime between 2:30 and 3 p.m. and lasting a matter of minutes.

The storm snapped at least one tree in half and knocked down others. Limbs were strewn across lawns on a handful of streets in Hensall's eastern end.

None of several witnesses interviewed reported seeing a tornado or funnel cloud, and Environment Canada officials could not be reached this evening for comment.

A Festival Hydro worker told the Times-Advocate power to the entire village was knocked out, but workers hoped to restore power to at least a portion of the village by this evening.
